July 21st, 2012 I posted the below picture to Facebook with the caption “Bye Bye Statesboro….it’s been the best of times…it’s been the worst of times! Wouldn’t trade these memories for anything!!!” I had a skeleton of a plan and no job but was headed to Atlanta to chase my dreams. What that dream was? I had no clue but something told me I needed to get out of my comfort zone and see what I was made of.

If you would have told me when I snapped this photo what lay ahead, I would have thought you insane! The opportunities I have been given have been amazing; including the most recent. I couldn’t be more excited to announce I have been presented with the opportunity to move to Chicago.

Guess what – I took it! This southern lady is heading to the mid-west! I can’t wait to share my journey with you here on Southern in the City. Cheers to grabbing the bull by the horns and my new adventure in the 3rd largest city in the US!

Duke & Suzi

Today means back to work for me after a long vacation. While I’m stuck in the office – I’ll be dreaming of park visits with the pups. Here are a few favorites of my cuties during our last Piedmont Park adventure to hold me over until the weekend!

Happy New Year!

2015 marks a new year packed full of possibility not only in my blog world {seen here} but my work and personal lives as well!  Amongst all the new possibility excitement, I want to check off a few goals along the way.

10 Goals and Resolutions for 2015

  1. Make candles Something I have been meaning to cross off my bucket list for a while! Not only will I learn a new skill but my home will smell delightful! I’ll be sure to share my how-to!
  2. Host a dinner party Santa brought a kitchen full of cooking and entertaining goodies! Now time to show them off!
  3. Finish the boyfriends four runner painting Those who know the boyfriend know how much he loves his tonka toy! I started a painting of his beloved beast but need to get motivated to finish it. Don’t worry – a before and after blog post will accompany its completion.
  4. Garden more I love to garden but for some reason did not make time for it in 2014. This year will be the year of la flor!
  5. Make ring bowls  {seen here} This has been sitting on my pinterest board forever. These are too cute not to create – plus an excuse to acquire more jewelry!
  6. Answer my phone So many people have voiced their difficulties in reaching me. This year the goal is not only to answer but return calls!
  7. Visit family more I do not visit my family enough. I travel for work but not pleasure? That seems a bit unbalanced and needs correcting. Hope the jetta is ready for a few extra miles this year!
  8. Decorate for each holiday I find such joy in decorating for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. When my home feels festive, I find myself in a creative state of mind so why not keep this going year round?
  9. Drink more water You would think this wouldn’t be a resolution but it is! I could always drink a bit more water each day.
  10. Complete my blog goals As seen {here} there are a few goals I have in mind for the blog. Have any other suggestions you think would be great? Leave a comment!

What do you have in mind for the new year?

Blog Resolution

Being home for the Holidays was wonderful! I was lucky enough to see friends and family, eat my Nana’s home cooking and enjoy a late night conversation with my Sug. Now that I am feeling refreshed and recharged, I want to focus on my goals for the upcoming year starting here with the blog. As mentioned {HERE}, I took a bit of a Hiatus from Pretty Little Peach Southern in the City during 2014. To stay on track and focused on something that gives me great pleasure, I would like to share my goals for the blog with you for added motivation. Below I have listed small obtainable goals to get me started. I would love to hear your thoughts – what are you interested in seeing on Southern in the City in 2015?

17 Things You Learn From Growing Up In The South

So privledge to be raised in the south!

Thought Catalog

Yes, a lot of the stereotypes are true, but many of them aren’t what you think they’d be. And it can be a pretty great place to be a kid.

1. Southern food is truly the best. Whether it’s spicy gumbo, fried chicken and biscuits with honey, sautéed greens, or BBQ meat that falls off the bone — the south has it locked up. You grow up with that food and it is the stuff you will be craving for the rest of your life. The day I arrived back in America after a few years abroad, the first meal I had was fluffy biscuits with sausage gravy, two sunny side up eggs, and a glass of real sweet tea. It…

Meeting Marquin

Rose gold is all the rage for Spring 2013 and recently I got my rosy fix from the southern artist Marquin over at My super cool bracelet is adorned with a bullet charm shot by the designer herself. Such a bad ass.

Since wearing my cooler-than-I bracelet, I have gotten muchos compliments and thought I would share other designs I am dying for by this South Carolina designer. Many of her jewelry creations incorporate the self-shot bullets. So southern right? What southern women doesn’t know how to shoot a gun – it’s a right of passage!! Take a look at my favorite designs then venture over to her site for a ton of other hot pieces! {Here}

I absolutely adore this necklace. Between the vintage feel and beautiful colors, whats not to love about this statement necklace.

Bullets, pearls and tassels.... everything southern wrapped into one piece of jewelry.
