July 21st, 2012 I posted the below picture to Facebook with the caption “Bye Bye Statesboro….it’s been the best of times…it’s been the worst of times! Wouldn’t trade these memories for anything!!!” I had a skeleton of a plan and no job but was headed to Atlanta to chase my dreams. What that dream was? I had no clue but something told me I needed to get out of my comfort zone and see what I was made of.

If you would have told me when I snapped this photo what lay ahead, I would have thought you insane! The opportunities I have been given have been amazing; including the most recent. I couldn’t be more excited to announce I have been presented with the opportunity to move to Chicago.

Guess what – I took it! This southern lady is heading to the mid-west! I can’t wait to share my journey with you here on Southern in the City. Cheers to grabbing the bull by the horns and my new adventure in the 3rd largest city in the US!

Windy Wrap Up

As mentioned {here} & {here}, I visited the windy city this week on business but managed to sneak in a few hours to tour the town. First stop, Cloud Gate. My favorite Chicago staple; I always make a point to stop by and reflect on the city.

I also had the chance to visit the Christkindlmarket Chicago to take in beautiful handcrafted ornaments made by Germans. The stunning Christmas tree and manger scene really got me into the Christmas spirit! Can’t wait to head home for the holidays and spend a little time with the family.

Since I needed to pack light, I ended up sporting my packable puffer all trip and kept my feet warm in my favorite Frye boot – the veronica slouch. Get a similar look below! XO

Oh, the winds in Chicago have torn me to shreds; Reality has always had too many heads

On the calendar next week is a spontaneous trip to Chicago. With Georgia weather being warm most of the year, I never splurge on heavy winter accessories. However, my last-minute trip could turn permanent (more details to come) so adding these staples to the wardrobe could become reality!

As this visit involves work, I want to look chic and professional without being boring in black. Opting for these neutrals are not only work friendly but will keep me warm for winters to come.
